My next phone

LogicalNot

I found this little doozy today. Probably the coolest concept ever. Check out the video.

I noticed a number of other cool looking phones but this was by far the most interesting. I wonder how long into the future we'll have to wait before we start seeing products like these line the shelves of our local radioshack.

OMFG Dever's Beware PWNAGE is on the horizon!!!

LogicalNot

Hey guys, I've been doing alot of research about ASP.NET AJAX development in the past little while as I'm working on contract for a company in my hometown preparing an AJAX enabled .NET site for them.

I remember chatting with one of my professors who referred me to these guys named Telerik. They have a content management system called SiteFinity which I guess he thought is pretty good.

After doing the business requirements gathering/analysis for the website I quickly realized it would be quicker for me to use a preexisting CMS and extend it rather than start from scratch. I looked at few, even a few in the open source community: Drupal, Joomla, Dot Net Nuke, and SiteFinity.

These are all very very good content management systems but SiteFinity by far blows the other three (which I personally consider to be the best alternatives) out of the water.

Being a .NET guy, seeing such a beautiful system was very pleasant for me to say the least.

I've had my fingers in it for a couple days now and I have a few bumps in the road but its been worth every one so far.

This isn't what I wanted to tell you about though. This same company, Telerik, they have a suite of AJAX enabled web controls for .NET which are nothing short of astonishing. I can't offer you guys the kind of excitement it brings to a developper but I can offer you all a sample video of a website using some of their RadControls.

If your still interested, you can find more information about them here

Or you can go try them out here

Go try them out I guarantee you wont be disappointed. This is about as good as it gets at this point for AJAX enabled web controls. These guys are obviously at the head of the industry with this stuff I can't wait to see where they take it from here.

Take care guys!

New Starcraft 2 Unit: There is a Cow Level!

imthinking

The Tauren Marine!

Tauren Marine

Yesterday Blizzard revealed on the SC2 site the new marine unit. Here's a snippit of the fluff surrounding it:

"While most tauren were satisfied with their agrarian culture and primitive existence, the Confederacy was able to lure away large numbers of young bulls for a life of adventure and violence along the galactic rim. Other tauren referred to these adventurers as 'mad cows,' and they were ostracized from the rest of their kine. The newly created tauren marines didn't care--they got neat-looking armor and big guns to own everyone else with. These beefy new soldiers are now an integral part of the Confederate military, and have managed to horn in on the roles traditionally filled by firebats and other infantry units."

The fluff is a bit strange for me as from what I've read so far, but they're impact in the game is undeniable. They really remind me of Ogryn from Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard, acting like heavy duty badass infantry. There are some screen shots available of their mayhem and even a video showing the raw killing power they posses.

Normally I'd say that these units seem WAY overpowered and that they need to be nerfed, but we've seen what the Protoss have and beginning to see the insanity that is the Zerg, so the Terran having a unit like this would only seem to balance the weighs a bit.

Here's the video I was talking about earlier:

I'm not a big fan of this unit though, this really does seem to take Warcraft too far, I know it's a popular MMO but Starcraft is Starcraft, as Artanis said "This is not Warcraft in space!" Althought this is in the hands of Blizzard at the moment and nothing can be done about it.

Cheers,
Jerry-Orest

P.S.

lulz. The Blizzard staff are pretty funny and always have their fun on April fools day. This year wasn't any different. With the "release" of the Tauren Marine and the "Bard" in WOW, it brought me a few good chuckles. Look up the main Blizzard site and you'll see a couple of the pranks they did there. Seriously though...when is Blizzard going to show a new unit >____<

I doubt the marine will be shown soon since from the screenshots I've seen from the new Zerg fighting the Terrans, it seems that they're constantly tinkering with the unit both graphically and it's operation.

Cheers for realz,
Jerry-Orest

DOOOOOOOOOM!!

imthinking

DOOOOOOM!!

Don't panic. I'm not. Really? I think I'm not, AM I?
WHY, why do I have to listen to CBC radio in my car? I'm just sitting there delivering Chinese food when I hear a news report on how a recently constructed collider machine may be the DOOM of us all! The machine is called the Large Hadron Collider and was constructed in Switzerland. It was designed to smash together at the speed of light two beams of particles to recreate the big bang. Now I know that in the name of science that this can benefit humanity in our never ending quest for knowledge, but hasn't anyone stopped to consider that we are recreating A BIG BANG?

Hello? doesn't a big bang result in a large explosion like event? Which could be bad for objects and people near by it? If I wake up to a mushroom cloud I will know who to go after. My vengeance knows no death. Not only this, but apparently, there is a possibility of creating mini blackholes as a result? Oh yes, that's what we need, blackholes destroying everything. How am I supposed to fight a blackhole anyway?

All of this really just sounds like something I've heard of before and the technology there was used for evil....

....THE SPOT!

But in all seriousness, What's the deal with Switzerland? This seemingly neutral nation which has stood in the shadows of the international spotlight. I don't trust them. This sounds like the plot of a James Bond movie, are the Swiss really just creating a super weapon to take it's place in history? I'm keeping an eye on you Switzterland, you're chocolate isn't even that great.

Cheers,
Jerry-Orest

I have died and gone to RTS heaven

imthinking
Yes, I love Halo, and yes I love COD4, but in my heart I will always hold dearest the beauty that is RTS gameplay.

There something I've always found satisfying about RTS, maybe it's the concept of not only outkilling your enemy, but also outsmarting them in the process to make the victory that much more complete. Starcraft and Red Alert are two games of which I've enjoyed the most bar none. The story and gameplay were nothing short of brilliant imo and now in the next year or two my two favourite games that I've been playing for years are coming out with their expasions...YES!!@^&$

Really, I could make a long and detailed post on how truly excited I am for the releases of Starcraft 2 and Red Alert 3, but all you need to know is that I love it, story ends there. What I will draw attention to the latest news from each of these games: First is the reveal of the Zerg faction of Starcraft. Obviously my post is a bit late to make this breaking news but nonetheless I am extremely stoked on them. No new units have them shown yet on the main site but we've had some nice peeks on the Zerg video.

Watch Video Here

In the video you can see that the good old terrans don't just get turned into exploding sacs of zerg goodness (upon further review that comment appeared to me laced with sexual innuendo, but the humourous nature of this fact led me to keep it in...that's what she said). We now see that a new zerg unit infects the barracks and pumps out infected marines which instead of blindly running into their objective now shoot back.

For the sake of keeping this post short I’m just going to also post the vid for the Red Alert 3 announcement.

Red Alert Announcement Vid

Cheers everyone, I’ll keep this up to date when I find more out about these games.

I appreciate the gesture

I can't help feeling like Sony wants me back. But I'm sorry Sony, whats over is over. I'm now with your younger, slightly cuter little sister the PSP. At least I'm still in the family. Right?

Well to be entirely honest I'm in a love triangle between the PC, and PSP, with the 360 leading the way.

But from what I hear, people are dual-booting their Playstation 3's and putting Linux on it. Mmmm Linux.

Anybody who knows me will know the prospect of Linux with the power of the PS3 behind it slightly turns me on.

It was sad leaving you behind Sony, but I can't go backwards now. It's too late. I'm sorry. The Xbox 360 spins me right round baby. Right round. Like a record baby. Right round. Round. Round.

Plus the added feature of its name encompassing a synonym to the essence of a womans sexuality to the coefficent of X. Which sounds pretty damn good to me. X boxes equals as many boxes as I want/need. Win..? Win.

XBOX FTW!

Pathetic Misrepresentation

LogicalNot

So Rapidfire pointed me in the direction of this post. Now, I haven't talked to much about this topic but as my closer friends will know I am not a Mac man by any means. I support Linux alot but I use Windows the most because I am stuck there because thats where the market resides at this time. After reading through this whopping 4 page article I was left in disgust. Not because he put down the Mac, but because he made up bull shit about it to make it seem worse than some people already feel it is.  Here is my response...

I am not a Mac fan. I am, however, a software developer though and I understand the need for the Mac OS along with the need for many other operating systems. I run a triple-boot on my laptop with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Ubuntu (a Linux distribution). My experience with Mac’s is limited to using them at school rarely just to get a feel for them. But I do read a lot of articles about technology and computer software/hardware in particular.

I would like to point out that you have completely misrepresented the Mac in this blog. For example, Mac hardware is upgradeable, and user preference over Windows to the Mac is quite high as I understand from a study involving 15,000 students). Also, check your stats on the amount of people using Mac's and the amount using Windows before you post false numbers.

The one thing I disagree with about the Mac is the cost of its operating systems as they are built off of the Unix/Linux kernel with minor changes. My problem is that the Unix/Linux kernel is covered under the GFPL (Gnu Free Public License) which means you can use it, extend it, do what you want with it as long as its free and credit is given to the appropriates people. I'll often draw a picture of the Mac's garbage bin with the GFPL in it because Jobs has completely ignored it and gotten away with it somehow.

AceLuby, put it well saying that the Mac is Linux for dummies. Which was the purpose of the Mac, it’s like the Nintendo Wii; it’s for casual users not the hardcore. You might think Windows is for the hardcore but it’s not. Linux is for the truly hardcore.

Another thing I wanted to point out because you were saying Mac hardware runs poorly is that that is entirely untrue. Some more tests/experiments for you to look up: Macbook Pro's run the Windows operating system the best of any system available. The low resource development of Mac OS's could only mean that an Apple proprietary Operating system would run much better.

Extensibility wise, there’s no answer other than Linux. See Kulupoo's response to AceLuby for an example. But also as bigunderground said software for Linux is limited which accounts for the amount of people not using Linux.

But like Ballistic Jay said, it’s all opinion and sadly I think a lot of people are getting caught in the Windows craze because of their lack of experience with the Mac or many of the other Operating Systems available (even the free ones; Ubuntu).

So just as you have your opinion so do many other people. The problem I have with your document is how you made stuff up to make the Mac look worse than it is. It’s okay to show bias when writing but to let your bias run wild with imagination and completely misrepresent something is wrong and unfair. If I were an administrator of this website I would have your article removed because sadly a lot of people don’t know enough about the topic to see through your lies. I hope my response has shed some light on them.

Check your sources.

Ps. It was hard from the start to take you seriously with all the spelling mistakes in this article -- 'there/their' just one example.

Pps. North Korea is the bad one -- another misrepresentation.

There only one thing to say about  Kakkoii (the author of that blog): WAFN.

You'll hear from me soon guys! I've been busy working on school stuff if you wanna check out my portfolio website I'm working on, feel free to check it out here. Though it might not exist there much longer. It will be moving to tjbro.com in the future.

Take care everybody!
